چکیده

Introduction The relevance of behavioral addictions (like gambling or internet gaming disorder) is growing constantly - not only in clinical practice, but also as a topic addiction research. Furthermore, were found to share similar neurobiological mechanisms with substance-use disorders like alcohol drug addiction. Cue reactivity well-established concept study an important addiction: craving, which denotes the strong desire consume addictive substance. For instance, images alcoholic beverages can induce drink patients addiction, reflected brain activation parts reward system and regions specifically involved craving. Objectives In order extend existing findings field slot machine gambling, we focused on suffering from disorder (GD) who mainly played slot-machines. We investigated neural response addiction-related cues (in comparison neutral cues) using cue paradigm. Methods To that end, participants diagnosis GD (N = 10) group healthy controls 20) viewed pictures gambling-related (slot machines) well (ticket vending machines), while was recorded functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI). Direct comparisons analyzed for two different image types (gambling-related vs. neutral) separately. Results stronger insular cortex during presentation slot-machine images, cues. condition dorsal anterior cingulate (dACC) supplementary motor area (SMA) documented population controls. Conclusions line previous findings, visual led activations insula, plays crucial role disorders, especially Our results further add notion areas might play addictions. Specifically, our research context Disclosure Interest None Declared

Age Differences in Neural Activity during Slot Machine Gambling: An fMRI Study

This study aimed to assess the potential association between age-related prefrontal brain changes and slot machine gambling, an activity that has become increasingly popular among older adults. Functional magnetic resonance imaging was used to assess healthy older and younger adults whilst playing a slot machine. Results revealed that the older group over-recruited several bilateral and contral...

Psychological Treatment of Slot Machine Pathological Gambling A Case Study

In this article, treatment with stimulus control, exposure, and relapse prevention of a patient affected by pathological gambling is described. The patient, a 47-year-old woman, was suffering from this disorder for 5 years. Treatment consisted of nine individual sessions (five sessions of stimulus control and exposure and four sessions of relapse prevention) in a period of 10 weeks. At the end ...

Brain Imaging in Gambling Disorder

Gambling disorder recently was reclassified under the category "substance-related and addictive disorders." With regard to the diagnostic criteria, it overlaps a great deal with substance use disorder, i.e., loss of control, craving/withdrawal, and neglect of other areas of life. However, the gambling disorder symptom "chasing one's losses" is the only criterion absent from substance use disord...

Brain Cells in the Avian ‘Prefrontal Cortex’ Code for Features of Slot-Machine-Like Gambling

Slot machines are the most common and addictive form of gambling. In the current study, we recorded from single neurons in the 'prefrontal cortex' of pigeons while they played a slot-machine-like task. We identified four categories of neurons that coded for different aspects of our slot-machine-like task. Reward-Proximity neurons showed a linear increase in activity as the opportunity for a rew...
